Learning Styles

Yes, I think that different learning styles effect the way that certain students learn. For example, some students work better on their own rather in a group. I know personally I work better on my own. I seem to get overwhelmed when i am in a big group of people. I know a few of my friends are more visual in the way that they learn, and don't really get the concept when it come straight from reading a passage.

I believe that this test has given me a better insight on what specific warning signs to look for. It would be a good way of figuring out what is best for each individual student to increase their learning. The only problem would be making sure that you don't misread a sign and put them in a uncomfortable environment.

Spreadsheets

I think spreadsheets are a wonderful tool that allows us to create tables, timelines, keep records, and many other things. I believe it has many uses in a classroom. It could be used to show students how to organize their data in a clean manner. It also allows them to be creative and use some of the tools to personalize it.

As a teacher i believe that it would be a useful gradebook or even a absence report. I believe that the advantages of using a spreadsheet over a calculator would be the fact that you can change the data in a spreadsheet as much as you want and the formulas would stay the same. This allows us to go back and make changes if needed to see a new outcome. A good example would be a student has a C and wants to know if extra credit will help him or her get a B. You could factor in a extra credit grade to see if it would help them out or not. I think a fourth function would be a organizer. Spread sheets allow us to keep the data in a very organized manner that way if we need it we can pull it up and use it in a formula or what ever else may be needed.

Week 3 Inspiration

Inspiration looks like a fascinating program just for the simple fact that there is just so much you can do with it. This allows you to map out how a paper is going, before you actually write it. I find that it can really help improve students papers. Allowing them to visulize what they are trying to say and direct them in a more professional manner. With a program like this though you would not be able to pick it up and use it right away. It looks like you would need atleast a couple of months to teach students all that there is to offer. In the video it also states that teachers can give them basic understanding but they also need to learn from each other in group settings, so you would need to come up with group projects for them to do. Overall it looks like a really neat program and I would definately say its something worth trying.

Role playing exercises I think would enable students to benefit will from the technology and enable them to get peer feedback as well. Have groups of like 3 or 4 students visit a certain place and tell about the culture, specific monuments, religion, among other things. Well using blog spot would be beneficial. because students would be able to keep in contact with each other. Teachers would be able to make sure groups are staying on topic and add suggestions to the projects. As well as adding bonus points for other groups to help with ideas and comment on a certain groups work. I was in my freshman algebra class, and some of the students in my class were just not understanding the material that the teacher was giving them. So after class we went to a study hall and there I proceeded to help them by showing them how he was getting from point A to point B. I felt that i knew the material very well, because i had already learned it at my previous school. After i had helped them with the work i felt more confident about what i had taught them and felt that it was easier to do my own work after that.

Blogging in School

I am a first time blogger so this whole thing is new to me, but so far i like it and I think with time I could get used to doing it. I think blogging in school would really be beneficial to education. Teachers would really be able to see if the students had a good understanding of the material that was taught in class. It would also help students out if they had a question about the material after class was over. I believe it would help the communication between the students and the teachers.

My Intro

Hi my name is Cody i came from a town called Roxton which is about an hour away from Commerce. I graduated with a total of 13 people in my class, and they still managed to drag that out for 3 hours. We moved to Commerce, because my mom got a job as the manager of a apartment complex. Its pretty nice since we don't have to pay rent. I got a job right next to where i live and the college is only 10 minutes away so its pretty convinent.
